The Mothering Myself Podcast

Nov 25, 2019

How can we choose gratitude to accept where we find ourselves at present both personally and societally, rather than looking back and feeling resentment. This episode revisits what frustrations, resentments, and inadequacies were real to the child who grew up within her family and the journey to choosing gratitude for her experience.  How do we look at our lives and view all that occurred as a gift rather than a burden? So often we are told to “be grateful” and we want to vomit because we are not there yet - we’re very much going through it. This discussion recognizes choosing gratitude as an important process, but, as a process. Our gratitude for something cannot always be immediate.

Sometimes it takes baby steps to allow ourselves to feel grateful for the events in our lives, and what is reflected in our world. What can you be grateful for today? In this moment? What are we learning? How can we be better? What are our teachable moments? What is it we are and are not accepting about ourselves?  This discussion honestly investigates reframing the past with gratitude rather than resentment, all on the journey to learn how to love one’s Self.

Plus, hear from Virginia, 37 who shares her writing to her younger self, from Richmond, VA.
